• 1. For which vehicles are vignettes compulsory?

  In Romania vignettes are compulsory for all motor vehicles on all national trunk roads and motorways.

• 2. Can I still buy a vignette for today?

  Yes, the vignette becomes valid as from the time of booking. Otherwise, the vignette is invariably valid as from 00.00 h until 23.59 h. It is not possible to backdate a booking into the past. Please bear in mind that the vignette is invariably booked in Eastern European time (EET).

• 3. Can I cancel a vignette booking?

  No, that is not possible. All vignette data (number plate and validity period) are transmitted directly upon successful order. Please note that you will not be able to change the data afterwards.

• 4. Do I need a motorway vignette for my motorcycle if I am driving with a sidecar?

  A vignette is not needed for a motorycycle even if it has a sidecar.

• 5. I am driving to Romania with a trike or quad. Do I need to buy a vignette?

  Trikes or quads are treated as motorycles in Romania and therefore do not need a vignette.

• 6. Do I need to buy an extra e-vignette (Rovignette) for a trailer or caravan towed by a car?

  No, trailers and caravans do not need a separate vignette of their own. But if the maximum admissible gross weight of your vehicle and your trailer add up to more than 3.5 t, then you will need a category C vignette for your vehicle.

• 7. Must I carry the booking receipt / counterfoil for confirmation with me at all times?

  Yes, in addition to the booking receipt / counterfoil for confirmation, you must always keep the registration certificate for the vehicle and the trailer with you. You must be able to produce all these documents for inspection.

• 8. How is the vignette obligation controlled in Romania?

  License numbers are checked by cameras installed along the toll highways in Romania.

• 9. Do I have to pay a fine if I have no valid vignette?

  Yes, the fine can be as much as 4,500 RON. It reduces by half if paid within 48 hours.

• 10. How far in advance can I book a Romanian vignette?

  A Romanian vignette can be booked at the earliest 30 days in advance.

• 11. I have a vowel mutation in my license number, such as "Ü" for instance. What is the correct way to enter my license number?

  You should please always enter the license number in the same way it is printed on your license plate. Our system then adapts the license number according to what the toll operator requires so that it is always identified correctly.

• 12. When I made the booking I stated a wrong license number or a wrong validity date. Can I still have this changed?

  For a fee you can have the license number changed at the Romanian toll operator either in writing or personally. You can find more information about this here: www.roviniete.ro The validity date cannot be changed subsequently.
